If you plan to use wooden skewers when cooking, soak them in water for about thirty minutes prior to use. By soaking, you can prevent the skewers from burning while cooking your food. To ensure that your food stays on the skewers, use two skewers instead of one to hold the food firmly in place.

When preparing a dish that calls for garlic, purchase garlic that is as fresh as possible. As a rule of thumb, garlic will taste sweeter the fresher it is. Fresh garlic is free of bruises and firm to the touch.

If you have a tight deadline to cook a roast, leave the bone in the piece of meat. The meat will cook a lot faster as the bone will heat it up internally. After it is finished, simply avoid the bone as you cut the meat.

Avoid cooking with a wine that you ordinarily would not find palatable to drink. Using a type of wine you find unpalatable will negatively impact the flavor of your food. You could try wine that is specifically formulated for cooking purposes.

To quickly cut herbs, bind herbs together and snip with scissors. The herbs can be fluffier, lighter, and drier than if you just chopped them.
